About the Club

Southbourne Tabletop and Boardgamers is an active and friendly wargames club based in the Bournemouth area. We meet on the first and third Sundays of the month at the Tuckton Social Club (BH6 3AA).

Times for the meetings are 10.00am – 6.30pm on the first Sunday of the month, 1.00pm – 6.30pm on the 3rd Sunday. We usually pack up and finish around 5 pm or just after. Free tea and biscuits are (usually) available.

There are normally a number of games organised and visitors are welcome to participate. We practice a first come first served policy on tables; if you can’t put on a game then we usually share tables/games. If you contact us beforehand, we’ll arrange a place in a game for you or set up a table so you can put on your own game. Either way, you’ll always receive a warm welcome and a cup of tea!

We game all periods of history, fantasy and sci-fi for those who enjoy wargaming socially with miniatures, strategy games, and role playing games. Wargaming covers a variety of games creating historical and fictional battles on the tabletop.

New members are always welcome, including beginners and juniors of secondary school age. No equipment or experience is necessary, just arrive at a club meeting. Membership fees are £20.00 per year with an additional £1.00 per attendance. Alternatively, the annual membership fee can be paid as a lump sum of £35.00. A £3.00 single attendance fee applies to Non-members .

Periods and rulesets currently ‘in vogue’ with the club are;

American Civil War (Fire and Fury and Civil War Battles)
Ancients, Dark Ages and Medieval (Hail Caesar, War & Conquest and SAGA)
Sci-Fi (Warhammer 40,000, Dystopian Wars and Full Thrust)
WW2 (Bolt Action and Poor Bloody Infantry)
Cold War/Modern (Force on Force)

We play in various scales: 6mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25/8mm and 54mm to name a few. However, we’ll play anything at least once. So if you’ve got a particular period in mind with armies and terrain sorted bring them down and you’re sure to find someone interested!

    • Hello Simon,

If you are interested in gaming with miniature figures and board games it would be best to come along to one of the Sunday club events at the Tuckton social club. Times for the meetings are 10.00am – 6.30pm on the first Sunday of the month, 1.00pm – 6.30pm on the 3rd Sunday. We usually pack up and finish around 5 pm or just after. Directions to the club are on the web site on the ‘our location / contact’ page. Ask for one of the committee members when you arrive.

      Many Thanks

    • Hi Nigel,

Going to have to wait for someone who recognises those names (acronyms I assume?) to provide a definitive answer; of course, if you have the stuff and fancy bringing it along and running a game, there’ll likely be somebody interested in giving it a go.

  2. hi I only play warhammer40k but I was interested if there were any dark potential or battle fleet gothic players as at a normal GW these are hard to play. ewan

    • Hi Ewan,

There’s a strong core of Warhammer 40,000 players at the club and a game of that on at just about every meeting. I used to play a little Battlefleet Gothic, it was GREAT, I have an Imperial fleet and would be happy to have a game or several. I haven’t heard of Dark Potential I’m afraid.

Of course, you’re always welcome to join in other games that are running at the club too, even if you don’t have miniatures or familiarity with the rules.

  3. Hiya lads,

    Couple of questions:
    – Is this thing still cooking (i.e. next session, 01/09)?
    – Is it mostly warhammer? I’m more keen on trying more serious wargames (anyone have CC Europe? I have Twilight Struggle if someone is interested)
    – Is it mainly bring-your-own?

    Probably see you next time.
    – Richard

    • Hi Richard,

Yep, while there’s not always a website update for every meeting, every meeting does happen. Have a look back through some recent posts to see what games are being played. It’s usually perfectly possible to get in in a game using part of somebody else’s army, or you can bring your own

    • I play that! Only had a few games of it so far, but have liked it enough that I’m collecting for it and have enough stuff for both sides to play some decent-sized games. I’d love to play more of it so let me know!

  4. excellent I’ll are you going to be at the next meeting? I’ll see if I can fined a starter set not on per-order are you on Facebook (might be a good way to communicate)

    • I should be at the next meeting, yep! The starter sets are good but I have two of them plus a number of other ships so if you don’t get one don’t worry, I have more than enough stuff. I’m not on Facebook but you can email me at wishkah at gmail dot com.

    • Hello Mona,

If no other club member replies specifically to your post it is probably best, if you can, to visit the club house on a Sunday. Our club weekends are normally the 1st and 3rd Sunday in the month. You could then have a chat with some of our 40K enthusiasts.

      Regards Stephen

      • How often do you guys play? I have to say, I’m not that experienced, I only started playing it right before I started uni and since then I’m only able to play it with my friends back home during holidays. So I maaaay have to ask a few questions now and then. I’ll definitely check out those websites! Thanks a lot 🙂

  5. Times for the meetings are 10.00am – 6.30pm on the first Sunday of the month, 1.00pm – 6.30pm on the 3rd Sunday. We usually pack up and finish around 5 pm or just after. Free tea and biscuits are (usually) available. See the link above for location/directions. A friendly bunch who will be happy to answer any questions you have, though if its about WFRP I suspect only a couple will have played it.

  6. Greetings,

Just a punt but is Malifaux played at all by you chaps? I would be keen in getting going on this and any kind of tutorial or opportunity to watch a game or two to get a better feel of the rules would be appreciated.

I’d obviously have to swim to Tuckton now the bridge is closed…

    • Neil. Unfortunately Malifaux is not currently played at the club. Most of our members play historical games but there are those who will play fantasy games. You are always welcome to call in on a club day to see if our club is for you. Regards. Alan.

  7. Hey there, new in town and interested in playing some Bolt Action. Is there any chance if someone could throw me a demo/tutorial game at the next meet up? I have played WHFB and WH40k in the past but have always wanted to try historical.

    • Hi James,
Sorry not to get back to you sooner. Quite a few of our members play ww2 but the favoured rule set is Battlegroup in 20mm. Why don’t you pop in and see us on either the fist Sunday (start at 10am) or the third Sunday (start at 1pm) of each month to see if what we have to offer is for you.
      Alan Easton.
